The biggest advantage to EquineCare Probiotic is that it has very few ingredients, and the ones it does have are natural, non-toxic and totally safe. It is a proprietary blend of GRAS (Generally Recognised As Safe) listed beneficial microbes, billions of them, as well as yeast and water.
This blend, when applied, creates an environment that pathogens can no longer survive in. It does this in a number of ways:
Occupation/Colonisation -The microbes work together to occupy and colonise all the space, leaving no room for the bad bugs to live.
Predation -Many of the microbes happily attack and feed on the bad bacteria and fungi in an infection, depleting their numbers quickly.
Quorum Sensing -The numbers game. This is the process by which we introduce such high numbers of good microbes that the bad pathogens respond by admitting defeat and shutting down.
This combination of approaches means EquineCareProbiotic is ideal for everything from regular preventative maintenance to tackling minor bacterial and fungal skin infections in your horses. Another benefit to using only beneficial probiotics is our treatment doesn’t contribute to the rising epidemic of antibiotic resistance happening in our horse populations.
In fact, we strongly recommend when using our product that you don’t use any antibiotic or antifungal treatments at the same time, including natural oils, lotions and washes. These will not discriminate and will kill off the good microbes we are relying on. Most oral treatments should have no effect against our formula, but if you’re unsure, please feel free to contact us.
Another benefit to our product is it doesn’t require the often painful process of scab removal. We believe scabs are there to protect damaged tissue and assist in healing. Once the tissue beneath the scab has healed sufficiently, they will start to lift and come away on their own. This saves your horse an uncomfortable situation and owners a potentially dangerous one.
What conditions will EquineCare Probiotic be effective against?
Because our formula is designed to crowd out bad bacteria and fungi with beneficial ones, it works on a wide variety of ailments that are common to horses. As long as the underlying cause is of a minor bacterial or fungal nature, EquineCare Probiotic is for you. We have had great success with treating conditions such as minor greasy heel, rain scald, onset and preventative seedy toe, contact dermatitis and sweet itch, just to name a few.
As EquineCare Probiotic is natural and non-toxic, it’s also safe and smart to use as a regular preventative to ensure disease doesn’t take hold in the first place. It’s also highly effective for sensitive horses as, unlike other products, scab removal is not required so there is far less discomfort for your horse.
If you’re unsure of the cause of the condition, or if symptoms persist, please consult your veterinarian.
A pretty common infection horses get, often worsened by wet, warm conditions, affecting primarily the lower legs. This bacterial infection causes inflammation, itching, swelling and scaly scabs. It’s generally worse in non-pigmented (pink) skin.
A similar condition to Greasy heel, rain scald causes crusty sores and lumps across the body, neck and head. The hair will mat into the sores and come away leaving bald spots.
Seedy Toe is a separation of the hoof wall from the underlying laminae at the white line. The cavity that results traps debris and bacterium which leads to infection. This infection needs to be dealt with quickly to prevent the keratin liquifying and more serious issues from developing.
Thrush is a bacterial infection in the tissue of the frog. It’s generally obvious from a pungent, odorous discharge. It causes pain and can lead to lameness.
Ringworm is a very contagious fungal infection. It causes round, hairless patches that crust and scab. It can be passed easily between horses and even from your horse to you.
General minor cuts and scrapes
Horses can end up with random cuts and scrapes from their environment. A stray nail poking out of a fence, a nip from another horse etc. They can be easy to miss, but every break in the skin is an invitation to bacteria and fungi, leading to infection. Staph infections (Staphylococcus Aureus) and MRSA are becoming more common in our horse populations, as overuse of antibiotics are leading to more cases of antibiotic resistance. EquineCare Probiotic is an excellent product to fight these infections before they can take hold as it does not contribute in any way to antibiotic resistance.
We always recommend a proper diagnosis by your vet.
